Jatoba, also known as Brazilian Cherry (scientific name: Hymenaea Courbaril), is a large tropical tree from South America, reaching up to 30 meters in height.
Brazil is home to a vast array of plant species, with Jatoba hardwood standing out as a renowned exotic wood. Jatoba hardwood flooring is prized for its striking orange to salmon red colour and exceptional hardness, scoring 2350 on the Janka Hardness Scale. This makes it nearly twice as hard as red oak, a standard for wood hardness.
Jatoba wood is known for its durability, resisting scratches, dents, and wear from foot traffic. Its beauty is also a key attraction, with fresh wood displaying a range of colours from salmon red to orange-brown, and ageing wood turning into a deep russet red with dark brown streaks, complemented by a golden lustre for a dramatic appearance.
